Tonja Ayers’ latest work, “The Apple Don’t Fall Far from the Tree,” explores the ‘generational curse’ that many young women face today. As a teenager growing up in northwest Detroit, Apple swore that she would be nothing like her mother who she despised. Apple is struggling with her mother’s neglect and promiscuity. Big Mama, Apple's grandmother, took her in and raised her yet she yearns for the love of her mother. Readers will find out if Apple is able to break through the patterns of her mothers’ past and make her own way in the world. Ayers’ brings a writing style that is both hard-edged yet sensitive. She brings a clear understanding of life, with enough tough love to leave readers thinking and learning a bit about themselves and the world around them.
“...A must have for your book collection...Characters are well developed and most importantly believable. I love how Apple is trying to make everyone understand her pain...” – Amazon Review
As Ayers prepares for the 2013 UBAWA Fall Book Fair that will take place on September 28, 2013 at the Georgia International Convention Center for her very first book signing featuring this title, one could only imagine what inspired Ayers to produce such a heartfelt story. It's no wonder that after 17 years as an entrepreneur in Detroit, Ayers has encountered her fair share of tales from chatty ladies who are bursting at the seams with juicy stories of deceit and betrayal. “I overheard a conversation where a woman said another woman's daughter was going to be a hoe because her mother and grandmother were hoes. It made me wonder...are well really pre-conditioned to be like our parents?” Ayers pondered before she penned her latest novel.
With a large, loyal following in greater Detroit, Ayers, a well-known businesswoman, has spent years as a sounding board for her customers. In 2009, she released her first book, "A Ho Needs 2 Stay in a Ho's Place" which was based upon the many stories of infidelity her customers would tell her about. Ayers decided to write books regarding the most popular discussions held between her and her customer base which led to her other self-help books "How to Start Your Own Business", "Is Your Man Gay?" "Cheaters: The Who, What, When, Where and Why of Cheating" and her first novel; "The Apple Don't Fall Far from the Tree" which was co-written with talented author Tracee Boyd.
