Toolbox have a variety of other sub-sites for specific tools, however, this is the first for ‘multi tools’. It appears that the multi tools website launched is currently running on the same platform that operates Toolbox and other tool specific websites. The platform is extremely stable and provides great navigation for experienced and inexperienced users; coupled with the range of products on offer, it seems likely that this multi tool site will be a success.
The products offered vary from simplistic multi tools that everyone is familiar with, such as Swiss army knives to more complex multi tools used in different industries like the Dremel multi-tool. The site covers big names in the powered multitool industry; Draper, Bosch for example, whilst also focusing on those names associated with standard multitools, including Leatherman, Victorinox and Gerber.
Lee Taylor, Product Manager at Toolbox explained the idea behind the new website: “We have a wide range of multi-tools and plans to build upon our existing range, along with constant, healthy sales on Toolbox; it was deemed a necessity to provide customers with a sole site where they could shop for just multitools. It will also give the business a chance to further expand into this area and maybe introduce new products and accessories linked to multi tools; this will hopefully solidify as well as diversify our existing customer base.”
Toolbox has sold multi tools almost since the website started, so this site expansion has been in the pipeline for quite some time. Anthony Langston, Website Manager at Toolbox clarifies why: “Where possible, we avoid rushing things that don’t need to be rushed; this was the case for the multitool site. We’ve spent a lot of time customising and refining small things on the site which help make it run smoother and cause fewer problems for the user. If our fine tuning has been successful, you won’t even notice it, as customers will be able to browse and search the site efficiently and purchase items with no problems within seconds.” Anthony carries on by saying, “As people aren’t always confident with online purchasing, we’ve strived to clearly detail and describe every tool on the site and display it with a high-resolution image. This hopefully makes potential customers feel more at ease in the knowledge that they know the product before they’ve even held it.”
MultiTools.co.uk is a sub-site of Toolbox, the sister company of the ever expanding Plumbworld empire. Plumbworld was an early pioneer of online trading, started by James and Anita Hickman in 1999 and was sold to the Grafton Group PLC in December 2006, Plumbworld now employ more than 50 people in their purpose built warehouse and offices and boast an astonishing 49 websites selling everything from decorating tools and chainsaws to barbecues and woodburning stoves. The business has a turnover in excess of £18 million and is growing at more than 20% year on year.
